as “in a funk”. I’ve been just in a funk for like the last two weeks. We just lost a gig we thought we had because the end client is a nut job. I’m frustrated with music, relationships, and the wondering where the next pay check is coming from.

A week in the Chelsea hotel with nothing but a guitar? Move to Brazil? Maybe Rome? Join the CIA (they are hiring)?

i find sitting in my room chain-smoking while listening to ryan adams' "heartbreaker" over and over helps. then i get depressed because here's this kid who's in his mid 20s who wrote, recorded and released the greatest breakup album since 'blood on the tracks' on his first solo attempt after three amazing albums by one of the best alt-country bands ever and i can't get two lines to rhyme... but it makes me work harder... so screw that... go to the beach, get drunk, watch the sun come up and write an album about the girl you fell in love with who you never met... or go throw the country a-k section out into the street and get a job at the virgin megastore and never look back... i dunno... don't listen to me...

If it makes you feel any better, I'm working at a grocery store.

funks suck. it's weird how you don't really notice they're coming on, then suddenly you find yourself trapped in the middle of it, with no end in sight.

i think i often get in funks when i think too a trite attempt at advice, hang in there. it always gets better-just keep trying to 'experience' life...enjoy it.

Hey darlin-
Head out to Louisville - we can share in our "funk"ness. This is a weird little world we're all living in right now. Even weirder still following the tragic events of my friend Brian's suicide this weekend. In the military's fine phrasology, "What the "f"-over." Holy cow. Don't sweat the small stuff...that one always seems to come up. Never know if it'll help. It's all about perspective - keep those who love ya lots close - especially family and your favorite blondes! ;) Always remember that your friends love you and are here whenever for whatever. Thanks for the support this weekend. Always know I can count on you - you're the best!
Hang in there!
Love ya-
Kate :)
