The Partial Redesign Bug

So after talking to .sara and surfing a lot, I’ve got the redesign bug. Not a full out complete creative redo bug, more so the “severe modification” bug. This design, which was built in my early css learning days with much help and emotional support from the aforementioned web rockstar, .sara, is just not as functional as I would like. I’ve become quite active with my postings on Flickr, and the sidebar story links as well. So functionality wise, any suggestions? Aesthetic wise, any ideas of how I can improve?

There are no sacred cows. This is your chance to rip things to shreds. In a very loving way.

I've been enjoying the sidebar content of late, so keep that up. The flickr thing is likewise neat. So while there isn't any useful creative content in this comment, you at least get some small amount of validation...

May your redesign be fruitful, and all your HTML validate.

Well, moving ahead on the redesign, I'm starting on the backend. I've actually gotten under the hood, installed some movable type plugins, and have started cleaning up the legacy of old ass movable type installs (e.g. RSS 0.92 and no RSS 2.0 feed wtf?)

For those of you wondering, I installed the following plugins for your enjoyment and my sanity:

    <a href="http://bradchoate.com/mt-plugins/textile" rel="nofollow">MT Textile 2.02</a> - a text markup utility
    <a href="http://voisen.org/archives/2003/05/mtcodebeautifier.php" rel="nofollow">MT Code Beautifier 0.5</a> - Formats source code for viewing.
    <a href="http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/" rel="nofollow">Markdown</a> - another Text Utility
<a href="http://daringfireball.net/projects/smartypants/" rel="nofollow">Smarty Pants</a> - Because I know how you typographers get about proper typography
    <a href="http://www.bradchoate.com/weblog/2002/08/12/mtmacro" rel="nofollow">MT-Macro</a> - Not like Word Macros (thankfully)

I'm still implementing some of these, but the basics are there.

There are now feeds for the boboroshi log in <a href="/rsd.xml" rel="nofollow">RSD</a>, <a href="/index.rdf" rel="nofollow">RSS 1.0</a>, and <a href="/index.xml" rel="nofollow">RSS 2.0</a> formats. I'm working on providing an Atom feed soon.

The RSS 2.0 feed should have the long content. Still working on getting that proper.
