Six years later, 9/11 still haunts us as a moment where we were suddenly vulnerable. The new empire that arose out of the chaos of World War II and “defeated” communism was brought to a screeching halt.
There was a lot of positioning and official statements in the days following, but I was just pointed to a video of John Stewart’s first ten minutes of the first show back after 9/11/2001.
It’s downright inspiring and completely real. There is no speech writer. There is no “let’s cut that part out.” It’s a straight forward pouring out of the heart of a New Yorker.
It is also sad to see that six years later, you still have young people dying in Iraq fighting a questionable war that was directly created by the mentality of those first few months after 9/11. And the American populous is more interested in watching Lohan-Rehab-Watch or Britney-Meltdown.
Where did it all go so horribly wrong?
